ŁKS – Season 2019/20
Łódzki Klub Sportowy is a club from Lodz, a city in Poland. More often presented as ŁKS. In its long, 112-year history, they twice became the champion of the Polish league (PKO BP Ekstraklasa), adding to this one win in the Polish Cup (Totolotek Puchar Polski). This team has spent the last 7 seasons in the lower leagues.
ŁKS players play their matches at the City Stadium in Lodz. It is a new facility, construction started in 2013 and will be completed in 2021.
Just before the start of the 2019/20 season, the manager of ŁKS changed. They were taken over by the manager from Łódź, for whom it was the first club in his career.
This season was the first one after they promotion to the top polish division. The management’s expectation was to keep the club in the league.
The lack of a rich sponsor affected the small budget that the new manager had at his disposal. This led to one transfer which was bringing in a goalkeeper for free, Krzysztof Karpieszuk.
First part of season
The first half of the season was not a dream for the manager, board, players and fans.
The league matches ended with 10 defeats in 20 matches. Only 7 times the players of ŁKS left the field with a full pool of points. In the second filed, which was the Polish Cup, the club from Łódź managed to win once and dropped out in the second round.
Unsatisfactory results resulted in bigger changes in winter transfer window. New manager got 3 new players. Center defender and winger to broaden the squad. The most important transfer was bringing in Serbian left-back David Hrubik, whom they had high hopes for.
Necessary sales were associated with purchases. The club’s legend, goalkeeper Michał Kołba, left the club. The next transfer, record transfer at that time, was the departure of Adrian Klimczak to the English Stoke City for about 780k pounds.
Second part of season
The second half of the season, with new players in the squad, was much better. Out of 17 matches played, ŁKS lost only 3 times, winning 8 times. It resulted in taking the 7th place, definitely above expectations. This put a lot of hope in the hearts of the fans.
The best players of the season in ŁKS were figures such as the Spanish magician Dani Ramirez, who can boast of 7 goals and 9 assists. These assists were used by Dani’s compatriot, Pirulo, who scored 16 goals. For a player of a new team in the league, the Spaniard has nothing to be ashamed of. The third player to be awarded is again the Spaniard, Ricardo Guima, who insured the center of the field, recording an incredible 90% of accurate passes in 32 games. The last of the key players was Hrubik, who was brought down in winter, reaching an average mark of 7.19.
The achieved result and the influence of Hrubik showed the management that Trzuskowski could get more freedom and support before the new season.
